03/23/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
A bit fearful and shy
04/01/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Toby is such a sweet little doll and she stole my heart from the moment I saw her curled like a tiny cinnamon bun on her bed. Quietly affectionate and grateful for love in that special way only older pets can be, her legs may be as spry as ever but this bat-eared cutie’s favorite spot is still sitting on a lap. Though she trembles slightly at first, my petting soon calms her and we hang out on the bench for a while, snuggled up tight and happily watching the rest of the world pass us by. Back on all fours Toby toddles around, sizing up the scents and sounds of the yard, taking care of all her business promptly and greeting other dogs with friendly interest and a wagging tail. Toby is with us because her owner was evicted and the care in her former home may not have been ideal as she has a very large skin tag hanging from her wee chest. Sometimes she can get a little upset when first picked up and a visit to the vet to rule out possible medical issues should be her new parents first port of call – after they’ve thoroughly spoiled her with treats and snuggles of course! Toby still has so much life to live and love to give, she’s a precious treasure any experienced adopter would be so lucky to call their own.
03/25/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Toby walks calmly on leash. She was shy but friendly during the assessment – low body, but trying to stay close. Toby was shy during handling, but had soft body language. She was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Toby was not interested in food, toys or rawhide. She was relaxed when approaching a friendly dog, but was not playful. Toby was shy during the assessment but she stays close to the assessor and loves to be in assessors lap. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter. This dog is somewhat fearful and is offering signs of submission. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, shy body language , mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) she is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food. No interest. Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide 1. No interest. Dog – dog 1. Dog approaches the helper, soft body, tail neutral, but not playful. Helper:A1031039
