03/12/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
This is a 60 day re-SAFER. Trixy pulls hard on leash but it sociable to towards the handler. She is distracted but friendly with the Assesor in the SAFER room. She is high energy and highly distracted by the environment. During the Look portion of the assessment she was very active and would mouth the assessor while jumping in a playful manner. She was calm and allowed the sensitvity portion of the assessment. During Tag, Trixy was playful but very aroused. She repeatedly jumped and bit at the leash after the assessment item ended. It took her a few minutes to calm down and the squeeze portion of the assessment was able to be completed. With food, Trixy ate faster and stiffened when the assessor tried to push her out of the bowl. She showed no interested in engaging with the toy but kept a firm girp on the rawhide and did not relinquish it. Trixy is a high energy dog who needs daily activity to keep her physically and mentally stimulated. She is quick to use her mouth in play and has poor body awareness, resulting in her mouthing handlers with moderate pressure. When she becomes aroused she is slow to de-escalate and sometimes requires intervention to help redirect her to more appropriate behaviors. She would benefit from learning manners and basic obedience. She is highly food motivated and seems to enjoy learning new behaviors. It is recommended that she go to an experienced home with adopters who can meet her training needs and provide her with appropriate outlets for her energy. Due to her mouthy behavior and low threshold for arousal we recommend a home without children. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog becomes aroused and plays with leash after the third tag. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog gently places her open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure. Squeeze 2: 2. Dog gently places her open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure. Food: 3. Dog gulps food, begins to eat faster and with bigger bites, body stiff. She does not lift head when hand is applied to cheek. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the rawhide.
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Group Behavior: **Trixy is a social helper dog**
Trixy is warming up to playgroup and is more confident during playgroup and politely greets dogs entering the pen. She is good with dogs of different ages and playstyles and is respectful.
2/5
Off leash with other dogs, Trixy play bows upon entering the pen and changes between soft and rough play with both males and females.
Initially when playing with off leash dogs, Trixy has a low body, fearful with a tucked tail while being sniffed. She displays a lot of calming signals: sniffing ground, lip licking. She does not engage in play.
3/3 Update
Trixy engages in a brief bout of rough and rowdy play with a male.
3/4 Update
Trixy does well with a number of different male dog play partners. She plays rough and rowdy with a pushy and assertive puppy and comfortable with his bouncy, explosive playstyle.
3/8 Update
Trixy enjoys rough and rowdy play and offers lots of bouncy play behavior when play is readily reciprocated. With a sexually motivated male, she is tolerant of his following her around the pen and does not offer correction.
3/9 Update
Trixy is a social helper dog to a number of males. She enjoys engaging in rough and rowdy play with males with a similar play style but can modify her style and be tolerant and respectful when meeting new dogs. She is very tolerant but does not offer many corrections. When not interested interacting with one male, she is completely avoidant and moves around the yard to avoid interacting with him.
3/11 Update
Trixy is avoidant when being introduced to new dogs. She is tolerant when greeting but will avoid interacting after initial meeting. She continues to exhibit tolerant behavior.
3/15 Update
Trixy continues to do well as a social helper dog, She offers appropriate corrections to a rowdy puppy and will engage in play with interested dogs.
3/16 Update
Trixy continues to be a social helper dog.

A shelter staff member writes: Trixy has been in BACC since New Year’s Eve! Trixy is a gorgeous gray girl who is great in playgroup. She is confident, polite, playful when appropriate, and is even used as a helper dog! She has lots of energy burn, and will need engaged owners who will give her appropriate ways to harness that energy. Trixy can also become mouthy, and will likely benefit from some basic obedience and positive reinforcement based training. She is food-motivated and eager to please, so training should be a breeze! After almost three months in a kennel, Trixy deserves to have a loving home of her own! Please help Trixy find her active forever family, and pull her TODAY!
