04/19/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Ears, Ears, Ears! Timberland’s ears are hilarious and look like they are each controlled by 2 different nerve centers with one being up, the other down, and then vice versa. He has a perpetually stern and quizzical look but do not be fooled by his expression, this dog is neither stern nor confused- he has one thing on his mind and one mission in life and that is to be in the lap and kissing with whomever, wherever and no matter what! I was so surprised by this serious looking fellow who was a soft and silly marshmallow once free in a pen. I love when dogs are left to make their own decisions and they choose love and snuggles. Already neutered, Timberland was found as a stray and then kept by the founder for a few weeks where he is said to have shown some reactive behavior however his behavior at the care center has ben exemplary, earning him a safer of all 1s and 2s. He is friendly with large dogs we come across and does well in playgroups earning him many fans of staff and volunteers. He is a very happy go lucky fellow in our care, a lovely companion to walk with to the park and snuggle with on a bench. Come meet Timberland to day and let him snuggle his way onto your lap and into you heart. Follow those ears!!!
04/15/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Timberland was brought in to our center after a member of the public found him tied to a fence. The finder reports that before bringing him in, he had been kept in the home for three weeks, but he started showing potentially reactive behaviors, including lunging and biting without drawing blood. Timberland did not display any reactive behaviors at the center. Timberland was nervous upon intake but allowed collaring and scanning for microchip. He walked nicely for his relief walk and into the SAFER assessor room. Timberland allowed sniffing from another dog in playgroup but was not interested in playing. During the assessment, Timberland allowed all tactile portions with no agression whatsoever. During Look item, Timberland held gaze briefly and then averted his eyes with soft body. He kept a low wag and soft body during Sensitivity item. Timberland had no response to Squeeze at first, and then gently pulled back his paw. He allowed the food dish to be taken away, also lifted his head and ceased eating. Timberland was playful with toy and rawhide, holding it with a firm grip and loose, wiggly, playful body. The Behavior Team found no aggressive behaviors from Timberland at all, but due to finder’s report the Behavior Team feels Timberland should go to an Experienced home with no children. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in low wagging position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game with coaxing. He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push him out. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Rawhide: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the rawhide.
