04/14/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
04/14/15 21:46 Pepperoni was extremely fearful when he arrived at the shelter. The Rabies pole had to be used at the Manhattan shelter to get him out of the car. He did not allow scanning or collaring but allowed us to transfer him from the rabies pole to a regular leash, though he remained about 5 feet away from us. He accepted the water we gave but would growl if we tried to approach him. He allowed for vaccinations.
04/26/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Pepperoni is very quiet in his kennel. When I open the door he retreats to the back, hangs his head, and remains motionless as I try my best to loop the soft leash around his neck. Once successful I imagine it will be a struggle to pull him out. But a few tentative steps later, out pops Pepperoni and off we fly. From dark den to the vibrant world outside, and bashful Pepperoni comes alive! A leash puller without a doubt, Pepperoni is thrilled to begin the fun. He is an athlete that needs a sport. We begin with the marathon as we make our way to the park without barely stopping for a bathroom break. Pepperoni is excited by everything–birds, traffic, dogs, trash. Suffice it to say that he is a focused player. When he sees something of interest, Pepperoni will change direction on a dime. With birds and smaller dogs, he seems intent on a game of chase. With larger dogs his curiosity is more respectful. He pauses to wait and watch. Pepperoni can be distracted with a bit of effort and he finally enjoys sitting for a rest stop mid-race. He is social and interactive, although that is secondary to his love of action. Looking for an agility dog, running or exercise partner? Pepperoni’s your man. He is a colorful guy in more ways than one: black beauty marks dotting parts of his white coat and legs, alongside a few old scabs, and marked skin irritation around his neck. But his wide, bright smile is what you’ll notice first. Pepperoni is likely housetrained, responsive to verbal correction, and full of enthusiasm. Now back to our sports coverage. Next is a game of ball and Pepperoni is in motion again. Not a great retriever, but these things can be taught. The high jump, the toy toss… Pepperoni loves to play. If you’re looking for an animated addition to your physically fit clan, look no further. With proper training and exercise, Pepperoni will be a winning companion! No small animals or toddlers please. Another volunteer writes: What do you like on your pizza? Pepperoni! This strapping young man has a lot of energy. Clearly he loves toys! He loves being outside and this silly boy loves also loves to eat grass. I love his spots and his white and black coloring on his face. He is a strong boy so make sure you have control when walking him. But with a little bit of training, he will be a great addition to your family. If you love pepperoni on your pizza then you will be sure to love this Pepperoni too 🙂
