04/27/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Introducing Brooklyn’s most eligible bachelor, Solo! This gentleman has looks that will knock you off your feet. Weighing in at nearly 75 pounds, he’s a rather large boy, mostly muscle but a little bit of a meatball physique. Solo has the most inviting smile, one that when he grins, cropped ear to cropped ear, you can’t help but beam back at him. But anyone knows that looks alone don’t make a good partner, and Solo’s personality is equally attractive. When I approached his kennel, he was so happy. Shaking his butt and placing his paws on the door, letting me know he was ready to go out. His kennel was clean, and outside he did his business right away. Solo is a big guy, and he does pull on the leash. He seems to have such a zest for life, that I doubt that he can help it! He loves to give hugs and solicits attention and petting by nuzzling up against you. Solo’s previous owner indicated that he is gentle with children, his favorite toys are balls, and he loves to wrestle and play fetch. This wonderful dog shouldn’t be left ‘solo’ for long, come to the Brooklyn Care Center to see if Solo might be your match!
04/24/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Solo came to us as an owner surrender on 4/21/15. It was reported by the previous owner that Solo has been around children ages 4 and older. He is described as being gentle when playing with them, and is relaxed and tolerant of other dogs. Upon intake Solo was said to have loose body language, solicited attention and greeted people by jumping up on them. Solo had high energy throughout the entire assessment jumping up on the assessor strongly and pulling strongly on the leash. He allowed the assessor to conduct all tactile assessment items without displaying any signs of aggression. He proved a bit difficult to push out of the food bowl, but had soft body language. He took the toy away with soft body language, and only displayed minimal interest in the rawhide on this portion of the assessment. Solo appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. The behavior department believes that Solo can go to an average home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with his tail down, body soft. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Rawhide1: Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then turns away. Dog-Dog: When off leash with other dogs, Solo politely greets another dog and engages in a bit of rough and rowdy play.
