04/23/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Gary Oldman isn’t a name usually associated with warm fuzzy feelings but just wait until you meet this handsome little cuddlebug! Hugs, snuggles, petting and smooches are his weapons of choice and he’s out to steal as many hearts (and treats) as possible! Gary is an adorable bundle of pure puppy love, a bit timid at first but still keen to make friends and after an exchange of tasty biscuits for gentle snuffles he’s fine with being picked up and carried in my arms like a baby. Out in the yard he scampers around with happy abandon; meeting doggie pals through the fence, coming when called, sitting on command and taking food very eagerly from my hand. No one wants more love or gives more love than Gary and his heart craves the affection and security of my arms almost as much as his undernourished body craves food. Words cannot capture his special soul nor pictures do justice to his beauty, you’ll simply have to discover our rising young star for yourself. Ask to meet him at our Manhattan Care Center and come prepared to snuggle!
04/24/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Gary Oldman walks calmly on leash. He was calm and relaxed during handling and easily engages in play, body is loose and wiggly, mouth open. Gary Oldman ate faster, was stiff and very difficult to push out of the food bowl, but did not growl, snap or bite. He was not interested in toys but put body between the assessor and rawhide, showing no growling or stiffness. Gary Oldman showed a bit of concern during the food test gulping the food but did not escalate to a growl or bite. The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Food: 3. Dog gulps food, begins to eat faster and with bigger bites, body stiff. He does not lift head when hand is applied to cheek. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 2. Dog takes the rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. His body is between you and the rawhide, and he is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness.
