SAFER: EXPERIENCED HOME, NO CHIILDREN
The previous owner reports Samantha is respectful, tolerant, affectionate, and playful around children cats and dogs, and when she interacts with them she is gentle and respectful at all times. The owner stated Samantha is house trained and she is well behaved when left alone in the home. It was also stated that Samantha is not bothered when you take her food, toys, or treats away from her, and she is also not bothered by any kind of grooming. The owner mentioned that Samantha is nervous and fearful when she hears loud noises of any kind, and she was best described as being playful, confident, excitable, affectionate, mellow, independent, and friendly.
During the Intake process it was noted that Samantha was easy to handle and she allowed the counselor to pet and collar her. During SAFER Samantha maintained a low and fearful body posture, but allowed the assessor to conduct all handling items without issue. During the tag interaction, Samantha became stiff and uncomfortable with the assessors fast movements, but when the game ended she approached the assessor with a low body and tail wag. During the resources portion of the assessment Samantha was not interested in the food or rawhides, and only showed minimal interest for the toys. Samantha appears to be fearful of sudden movements, and the previous owner also reported that she is fearful of loud noises, so the department feels a home with erratically-moving or pushy children may be intimidating for her and would do best with an experienced adopter with no children. In addition the department recommends that introductions are done slowly and Samantha be given the opportunity to interact at her own pace.
Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions.
Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, body stiff, and mouth closed, lip long, ears back, and trembles.
Tag: 3. Dog repeatedly spins toward the touch. Dog is crouching, tail is tucked, mouth closed, body stiff.
Squeeze 1 & 2: 2. Dog quickly pulls back.
Food: Inconclusive, dog is not eating.
Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog sniffs, then turns away.
Rawhide: 1. No interest.
Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Samantha is tolerant of interaction but spends most of her time exploring her surroundings.
PLAYGROUP: When off leash with other dogs, Samantha is tolerant of interaction but spends most of her time exploring her surroundings. 8/20 update: Samantha is social and will offer play bows in attempts to solicit brief bouts of play.
