11/23/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: The name Rudy is generally equated with beings that are excited by change, adventure, and excitement. Well apparently Rudy wasn’t told that. Rudy is the opposite of his name he is mellow, low key and I’m not sure he even knows what excitement is!! I spent some time with Rudy and he is a very nice dog I would lovingly put him in the couch potato class. So if your looking for a handsome, low key, low rider hunk, your search is over!!! Rudy’s the dog for you !!! He is ready to fill that vacancy you have on your couch. Come to SIACC and meet Rudy.
11/17/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Rudy came into our center as an owner surrender. It is reported that Rudy is gentle and playful with other dogs but has never been around children or cats so behaviors are unknown. Owner describes Rudy as housebroken, friendly, playful, and affectionate with a high activity level. Owner reports Rudy will growl if you attempt to take his food. Treats, or rawhide away, but has never tried to bite. Due to this owner just left Rudy alone while he was eating. Owner states Rudy did not have any issue when taking Toys away. During his initial medical exam, Rudy was friendly and very energetic, allowing all handling. He pulled on leash during his relief walk. Rudy jumped up hard on assessor during positioning for Look item, pulling out on all three attempts. He stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, body soft, tail wagging, whining. Rudy was distracted and unresponsive during Tag game, focused on exiting. He gently pulled his paw back on both Squeeze attempts, tail wagging. Rudy did not show any interest in Toy during SAFER assessment, although owner reports he is playful and will play with just about anything so this may just be based on shelter environment. Rudy approached helper dog a bit quickly, body not stiff, ears forward and tail above spine level. Due to his potential for possible possessiveness as reported by owner, the Behavior Team feels Rudy would do best with an Experienced adopter that does not have very young children. Any older children should have an indepth interaction before considering adoption. Rudy may benefit from obedience classes to learn leash manners and body awareness in regards to jumping up. He may also benefit from daily mental and physical stimulation in the forms of walks, runs, exercise, play as well as durable toys such as kongs and nylabones to positively direct his reported high energy. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position, whining. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor. He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1/ 2: 2. Dog gently pulls back, tail wag. Toy: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches the helper dog, body soft, tail well above spine level, ears forward.
