05/26/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
05/26/15 20:37 This dog came in because it bit another dog in the home where it was staying. I walked out to the car where the dog was. I walked the dog into the shelter. He was leash reactive and pulled a lot but no in an aggresive manner. He did become softer bodied when we came into the admissions room. He allowed me to take his photo and collar him with no issue. He was cautious throughout the entire intake process but he was responsive to treats and he knows “sit”.

A volunteer writes: Do you like your dogs handsome, happy, smart and snuggly? Then say hello to Poppyseed, the playfully perfect pup of your dreams! When he’s not showing off his ball catching and fetching skills, this adorably freckle-faced boy is all about the snuggles and once I sit down on a bench he quickly trots over, wedges his butt firmly between my legs and looks up with pleading eyes as if to say, ‘I can have cuddles now?’ Whether it’s butt rubs, a belly massage, behind-the-ear scratches or a mutual smooch session, Poppyseed just can’t get enough or give enough love and his adoration of people is something beautiful to behold. Sadly, he is less keen on his own kind and though we have no problems passing other dogs in the street or kennel areas, once face to face with a fellow pooch Poppyseed lets out a little growl to let them know he’s not interested in being friends. Oh well, that just means more loving for the rest of us! He waits patiently for a throw of the ball and though he likes to carry it around for a while, Poppyseed never guards his things and I can pick it up from right under his nose with no issues at all. Off-leash he does the most amazing ring-around-the-human zoomies but on leash he’s easy to handle, taking care of all his business tout suite and responding promptly to correction and he’s clearly a very smart young dog. I fell head over heels for Poppyseed after just one date and can only imagine the many happy, snuggly, fun-filled years that lie ahead for his lucky adopters. There’s a small, dark and handsome stranger at our Manhattan Care Center who’d really love to be your new BFF, please step up for Poppyseed today!
06/15/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Poppy Seed came to us as an owner surrender after he bit another small dog in the home where it was saying. He was cautious throughout intake but was responsive to treats and allowed all handling from admissions counselor. Poppy Seed was a bit hesitant to come out of the kennel, but once he was leashed he walked nicely outside, no pulling. Poppy Seed held gaze for three full seconds during Look item, body cautious. He accepted the touch cautiously during Sensitivity item, taildown. Poppy Seed followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, settling at end. He did not pull back his paw during both Squeeze attempts, licking his lips. Poppy Seed had no interest in Food or Rawhide, with minimal interest in Toy, grabbing it but then releasing it quickly. He approached the helper dog at an appropriate pace, ears forward and tail wagging. Due to his behavior owner surrender profile, Poppy Seed would do best with an Experienced adopter. If there is an existing dog in the home, the Behavior Team recommends an in-depth interaction before adoption. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body cautious, mouth closed, lip long, ears back. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Food: No interest Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog may smell and/or lick, then turns away. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, lip neutral.
