05/30/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: So quiet, so gentle and calm, Honey reminds me of the girl in school who is always afraid of speaking up as she might say the wrong thing. For me, there is nothing that Honey can say or do that will make me fall out of love. She’s petite and gorgeous, likely house trained, great on the leash, soft and easy. She doesn’t ask for much, a little petting as she positions herself at my feet so I can reach out easily. Her tail wags from time to time and she gives gentle kisses, as if not believing her good fortune to have made a friend. She’s petite and elegant, her gorgeous face showcasing stunning amber eyes that match the honey coloring on her coat. For the ‘quiet girl’, she’s alert and interested in everything going on around us, observing and taking it all in as if she’s saving it for later. Not interested in playing, or taking treats, she’s simply content to stay close to me, enjoying some petting, and the simple proximity of a person. Her quiet demeanor and obvious sweet personality stole my heart as I know it will steal yours. She’s hoping to meet you today as everything is better with a friend.
05/28/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Honey walks calmly on leash. She was shy but friendly during the assessment – low body, but trying to stay close. Honey was a bit shy during handling with a fearful body language. She had a low body position during the tag test, but followed the assessor at the end of the leash. Honey did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl She was not interested in toys or rawhide. Honey was a bit shy during the assessment but she will warm up quickly to the handler. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is fearful; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, shy body language , mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide 1. No interest. When off leash with other dogs Honey is nervous with her tail tucked. When greeting the helper dog she offers a growl and lip curl, so she is muzzled. Upon introduction she sniffs then walks away. She allows the helper dog to sniff her but does not interact any further. Additional notes: When given a food item in her kennel, Honey has shown some guarding behavior, stiffening and growling when approached or watched. This was not seen during the SAFER food item, and may be barrier-related; she has also shown some reactivity at the fence when greeting other dogs. As a result of this behavior we recommend an experienced adopter and a home without children.
