06/03/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Handsome Ice was surrendered by his family as they are moving to a non pet friendly building. His resume includes the fact that he’s housetrained, lived with kids ages 5 and younger and is relaxed and tolerant of them, needs time to warm up to strangers, enjoys taking a bath and will even walk into the shower when it’s turned on! Its the “needs to warm up to strangers” that got to me, as we’re all strangers here. Initially not sure he wanted to come out of his kennel, he hugged the back wall. Finally outside, he pulls hard on the leash, but as of our first meeting, it’s simply about wanting to find his people. We head for the backyard where he can be off leash and take his time as we chat and become friends. He eventually comes when I call his name, and even hops up on the bench to sit beside me. A little tail wag is a major victory, and it’s clear he wants to be friends but is a bit overwhelmed. Ice takes treats gently but when not to his liking spits them out equally gently. Such a gentleman, he didn’t want to hurt my feelings! Gorgeous in his gleaming well taken care of coat, Ice is looking for a new family to take care of. And certainly, if you’re looking for a shower partner for whom you don’t need to hold in your tummy, Ice is the perfect companion. Give him a few minutes to warm up and I guarantee you a shower partner for life. Ask for him today. A volunteer updates: As volunteers we love the dogs we take care of, we cry for them when they are given up for whatever reason by their family, and we do what we can to make them more comfortable during their stay with us. The scared ones, like Ice when he first joined us, make us hurt for them and we work harder to help them overcome their fear. Seeing Ice again made me smile, as he’s come so far and it was wonderful to see him again. He happily comes out for a walk, goes potty right away, wags his tail at me and at other dogs he sees, bounces after a ball I toss and plays with it awhile, and then waits for another throw. Jumping up on the bench beside me he gives me a kiss before leaping down again for more fun. As happy as I was to see him doing so well in such a short amount of time, is as happy as I will be when I see him wagging his tail out the door with his new family. He’s gorgeous, his coat gleams and he was a cherished family companion looking for a new family. Will it be you?
