05/30/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
05/30/15 15:35 Basic Information Polly Pocket was brought in as a stray. Client’s say that while in Central park they spotted Polly Pocket loosely roaming. Behavior during Intake Polly Pocket seemed nervous during intake. She paced back and forth, and would occasionally cry out. Polly allowed me to pet her, and accepted treats from the palm of my hand. When attempting to collar her she would lightly growl. Polly seems to have male aggression. When Male admissions counselors, and ACO’s came near she would lip snarl and growl more aggressively but immediately went towards a female ACO and also accepted treats from her.
06/03/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Perhaps named after the toy line of dolls which are so small they can fit in your pocket, our Polly Pocket is a tiny little doll. Shy in her kennel, she comes out with some coaxing and out the door we go. Going potty immediately tells me she’s likely housetrained, and her leash manners are lovely as we walk to the park. A petite redhead, she ignores other dogs we pass, and when we literally bump into another she doesn’t react. Polly P (as I call her), has been a mom a few times, and may not have known the life of a pampered pet. She’s a bit shy but takes treats gently from my fingers, and while she isn’t completely comfortable being petted, she allows me to stroke her. Polly P has some callouses on her pressure points, both a sign of aging and perhaps not having slept on the softest of surfaces. Off leash in the back yard she quietly explored the area, not interested in toys or a ball. Sitting close to me as I take some notes, it’s clear she wants to be friends but isn’t sure how her overtures will be received. Her face looks worried as I assure her she’s a good girl and a better life is yet to come. She so reminds me of the shy girls at school, some of whom were picked on because they may not have “fit in”. Let’s put a smile on her pretty face and make Polly Pocket a pampered pet. She deserves it.
06/02/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Polly Pocket walks with a low fearful body language on leash. She was fearful and repeatedly attempted to get away from the handler during the assessment. Polly Pocket was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. She was shy during handling with a fearful body language but she became stiff and uncomfortable during paw handling. She was not interested in rawhide. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is stiff and fearful; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) she is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 5. Dog freezes and/or tries to bite. Food 5. Dog tries to bite. Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide 5. Dog attempts to bite
