07/13/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
New York came to our center after being found tied inside a park. She was fearful upon intake, laying down at counselor’s feet. She was barking and lunging in her kennel and difficult to take out. New York did not like being leashed but walked nicely into the SAFER assessment room, no pulling. She needed time to warm up before approaching for Look item, lip licking, stiff body. Eventually she came closer to assessor; eyes averted, body tense, but allowed her head to be cupped. During Sensitivity item, New York licked her lips, panting, body a bit cautious, but accepted the touch. She was unresponsive during Tag game, not fearful. New York pulled her paw/body away during Squeeze attempt, so item was moved to flank, where she had no response but stiff body. She had no interest in Food or Toy. New York had minimal interest in Rawhide, sniffing/licking a few times before turning away. She approached the helper dog at an appropriate pace, neutral body. The Behavior Team feels New York would do best in the home of an Experienced adopter with no Children. She may need time to relax and warm up in her new environment, and may benefit from a calm, quiet, structured home. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is stiff and fearful; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears back. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 3. Dog moves her legs/body so that the Assessor is unable to hold the paw. Flank squeeze 1 / 2. Dog does not respond at all. Food. No interest. Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide 1. Minimal interest. Dog – dog 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, and lip neutral.
