07/18/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
07/18/15 19:28 Profile wasn’t left due to client being difficult. However they did mention that he is aggressive towards strangers and woman. They also mentioned that he isn’t good with kids or other animals. Behavior During Intake: Preston came into the facility on a leash, his body was slightly tensed. He required a distraction so that I was able to scan him and due to behavior I wasn’t able to collar him. He was difficult to read as to him appearing friendly and then being aggressive snaping at the surrenderer.

07/21/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Preston came to us surrendered by a family member of the owner. Owner’s relative stated he is aggressive towards strangers and women, and that he isn’t good with kids or other animals. Preston came into the facility with a slightly tense body. He required distraction in order to be scanned, and he was unable to be collared, snapped at the admissions counselor and also the person who surrendered him. Preston barked and growled while coming out of his kennel, but softened once given a treat. He appeared to relax a bit once in the SAFER assessment area. Preston allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, eyes averted, body soft. He leaned in during Sensitivity item, soft body. Preston followed at the end of the leash during Tag game, body soft. He did not pull his paw back on first Squeeze attempt, low wagging tail. Second Squeeze attempt he did not pull paw back but also growled. Preston calmly allowed the Food bowl to be moved away, and lifted his head once assess-a-hand was applied to his cheek. He had no interest in Toy and minimal interest in Rawhide, no guarding behaviors at all. Preston approached the helper dog at an appropriate pace, tail above spine level, wagging, body relaxed. Due to the various circumstances in which Preston snapped, growled, and attempted to bite, the Behavior Team feels he would do best with a New Hope partner. It should be noted that shortly after the assessment Preston was soft bodied when female assessor approached the kennel and even sat nicely on command for treats. He may just need time to warm up and feel comfortable in his new surroundings. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back. Squeeze 1: 4. Dog growls. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. He lifts his head when hand is pushed against his cheek. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, dog may smell and/or lick, then turns away. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, lip neutral.

When introduced to a female dog through a gate, Preston appeared quite stiff and was muzzled. When greeted by a female dog, he was more focused on the muzzle but then once she became persistent in trying to solicit play he became assertive and began to growl and attempt to bite.
