07/28/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
07/28/15 18:50 Basic Information: Milo is a 2 year old neutered Lab pit mix. His previous owners originally got him as a gift from a friend when he was a puppy and have had him his whole life. The reason he was surrendered was because the previous owners felt they did not have enough space or time to care for him the way he needs to be cared for. The last time he went to the vet was 7/27/15. The two things his previous owner liked most about him are; he likes to cuddle and he’s a great kisser. Social life & Personality: Around children Milo is relaxed, playful and respectful. When he plays he is gentle but can be exuberant. He has been around children ages, 3 months, 5, 6 and 7 years. Around other dogs he is relaxed, playful and respectful. When he plays he is gentle. Milo is mostly house trained; his previous owner stated he has accidents a few times a week if she takes too long to take him outside and when he is left alone all day. He has been kept indoors only and has a high activity level. Milo can be described as playful, pushy, confident, affectionate and friendly. Behavior Issues: If he is eating or playing and someone touches his food bowl, treat or toy he is friendly. He isn’t bothered when he is pushed off furniture, disturbed while sleeping or if he gets his nails trimmed. He enjoys baths, having his coat brushed and being held. He barks when unfamiliar people approach the house. For a New Family to Know: Milo knows sit, down, come, up and stay. For exercise he went for slow walks on leash and playing in the yard. He likes to play with string and his favorite game is tug. He usually goes to the bathroom on the grass. When his previous owners were home Milo would tend to follow them around and liked to be in the same room. When left alone he is well behaved. When off leash he wanders off but comes when called. During storms/ fireworks he isn’t bothered. He eats wet and dry Purina and Alpo. At night Milo liked to sleep in the family bed, the floor near the bed or where ever he could feel the air conditioner. Behavior during Intake: Milo barked and growled at me but would gently take treats out of my hand, and he allowed me to pet him. When someone he didn’t know walked near him he barked and growled and did not like to touched on the face or near the head. Milo did show signs of aggression.

08/01/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Milo was difficult to remove from his kennel showing teeth, growling and lunges at the rope. He did not show any social behavior. Once he was out of the kennel he stands tall and exposes his teeth (low growl) the behavior team decided to place him back in his kennel he was difficult to handle. Milo was surrender to us. According to his previous owner Milo is relaxed, playful and respectful around children. When he plays he is gentle but can be exuberant. He has been around children ages, 3 months, 5, 6 and 7 years. Around other dogs he is relaxed, playful and respectful. When he plays he is gentle. If he is eating or playing and someone touches his food bowl, treat or toy he is friendly”. Due to the behavior demonstrated in the shelter the behavior department believes that Milo is not an appropriate candidate for SAFER. According to medical staff they was able to do a limited exam due aggression and unable to take out of cage.” The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home.
