08/09/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Oh Mickey, you’re so fine, magnetic and sweet you blow my mind! Mickey is an older guy, and while his age shows in his gait (his back end doesn’t seem to be what it used to be!), it also shows in his wisdom and mild manners (and obviously, in that most handsome, jowel-y frosted face!). Mickey is very friendly to everyone he meets – greeting them with tail wags and soft eye contact. He is very attentive, great on leash, and seems to hold it in forever in his cage, so may have housetraining. He loves treats and once he knows he’ll get one for sitting, well, he does a whole lot of sitting! He loves to be rubbed on his chest, scratched on his butt, and kissed on his nose. After some cuddling he does sort of a celebratory spin, wagging his tail throughout. Whenever I see Mickey out with another volunteer we can’t help but marvel at what a good boy he is! Who wouldn’t want this tuxedo gentleman at their side? Mickey would love to meet you at Brooklyn ACC!
08/01/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Mickey came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake Mickey was calm with loose body posture, and she allowed all handling. During intake Mickey came into the assessment room with loose body posture with his mouth open, he was friendly towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Mickey followed the assessor with his body soft but mouths the leash and didn’t de-escalate during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Mickey was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Mickey appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 2. Follows at end of leash, body soft but mouths leash and did not escalate. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. He lifts his head when hand is pushed against his cheek. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, dog licks, then turns away. Dog-to-dog: When off leash with other dogs Mickey greets the helper dog politely and continues to sniff but is more interested in exploring his surroundings. He may offer vocalizations and become frustrated when there is a barrier between a handler and him.
