04/14/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helper Dog:A1028933 Lucy came to the Care Center as a stray, so her past behavior in a home is unknown. When brought into the care center Lucy was reported to be easily handled, but has been reported to show some discomfort during the handling for her medical exam. Upon entry to the assessment room Lucy was a bit shy and did not solicit attention from the assessor, but she did approach the assessor when coaxed and was receptive to petting. Due to Lucy’s medical condition SAFER handling could not be fairly conducted, so only resources and dog-dog were tested at this time. Lucy displayed some concerns during the food and rawhide items; biting the assess-a-hand when pushed out of the food bowl, and stiffing while baring teeth when the assessor attempted to remove the rawhide item. She was not interested in the toys, and did not approach the helper dog, during the dog-dog interaction. Due to the guarding behaviors displayed during the resource items, placement with a New Hope partner that is able to provide Behavior Modification work by an experienced and competent trainer is recommended before adoption into a permanent home. Food: 5. Dog bites assess-a-hand. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 4. Dog freezes and bares teeth. Dog-dog: 2. Dog does not approach the helper dog, and exits.
