SAFE – 04/07/15 – LITTLE FOOT – A1031948 – MANHATTAN, NY
Safe 4-7-2015 Manhattan
15 year old Little Foot deserves so much better than to end his life on a metal slab, surrounded by strangers, scared, and feeling abandoned. And yet, that is what Manhattan ACC proposes to do—he is on tomorrow’s euthanasia list. Truth be told, this senior boy has a host of medical issues—he’s deaf; he reportedly has epilepsy and had seizures every day of the week before his owners brought him to sit in that cage; and his eyes are 15 years old and showing it. None the less he was “bright, alert, responsive” during his medical exam though the whole thing was terrifying him. What Little Foot needs right now is a visit with a real vet who will determine if he needs meds for his epilepsy and give him a good geriatric workup. And from there, he needs a soft bed, a human with a kind heart, and a safe place to live out his remaining years in peace and comfort. If you can give that to Little Foot, don’t wait to start working on fostering or adopting this sweetheart. But remember—ACC has every intention of ending Little Foot’s life at noon tomorrow.

04/03/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Little foot walks calmly on leash. He was not sociable, and was more interested in the surroundings than the handler during the assessment. Because of the dog medical condition we decided to skip the tag interaction and do the flank instead of the paw item. During the flank he does not respond at the touch. Little foot did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. He was not interested in toys or rawhide. Little foot was relaxed when approaching a friendly dog, but was not playful. Little foot did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Flank squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Flank squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog – dog: 1. Dog approaches the helper dog, soft or loose body, not playful.

04/03/15, A shelter staff member writes: Little Foot is a 15 year old dog who has been dealing with epilepsy since 2004 as reported by the owner. According to the previous owner the seizures have escalated and the last one that occurred several weeks ago changed the behavior Little Foot had towards the new born in the house. Since being at the care center the behavior department has determined her to be suitable for an average home. Little Foot needs a home that has experience with epileptic dogs. Please pull Little Foot online from MACC by 12pm tomorrow!!
