SAFER:
Lala previously lived with one adult her entire life but the owner states around children and strangers she is playful. Lala also lived with another dog, and the owner stated when they are with each other they will bark, growl and lunge at other dogs, but when alone she is tolerant of dogs. Her activity level was said to be high and the owner describes her as pushy, affectionate, and independent. It mentioned that Lala is trained to use the bathroom outside, and she does well in her crate for hours. It was also mentioned that Lala will swallow plastic toys.
At intake it was noted that Lala was calm and relaxed, allowing all handling by a counselor. During SAFER Lala was sociable, and maintained a relaxed body posture during all handling items as well as the tag interaction. During the resources portion of the assessment Lala was easy to handle when engaged with the food allowing the assessor to easily push her out of the food bowl, and she only showed minimal interest in the toys and rawhides. When off leash with other dogs Lala was reported to show some selective behaviors, but will greet other dogs politely. The department feels Lala can go to a home with an adopter with an average amount of experience with dogs, and it is recommended that introductions with other dogs are done slowly.
