08/28/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Someone cut off her ears and there’s no telling where her puppies are, but no one can take away Kimmy’s wonderful spirit! This beautiful mama is sweet, gentle, and a joy to be with. She wasn’t feeling so hot when she first arrived so I accompanied her to see the vet, and I can’t help but think she made all the other canine patients that day look bad! Even while being she was being examined and poked, Kimmy was calm, cooperative and utterly sweet — even licking my face while medication was being fetched! She is a dream on leash and very attentive. Kimmy keeps her cage clean and is quick to relieve herself outside, so may be housebroken. She hasn’t been reactive when we’ve encountered other dogs on walks and I’m told that she was initially a bit stiff in playgroup, but is now a bouncy superstar — even being used to welcome new dogs! She sits for treats, takes them politely, and seems like an ideal student to teach other tricks to! When we pass a familiar staff member in the hallway, Kimmy adds a little bounce to her step. She’s very friendly and I always catch her making soft eye contact with whoever passes her cage. She wags her tail when I pet her and will prop her paws on my lap — she’s irresistible! It’s Kimmy’s turn to be on the receiving end of things — could you be the one to give her a home? She would love to meet you at Brooklyn ACC!
08/19/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Kimmy came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake Kimmy was calm and social, she allowed all handling. During SAFER Kimmy came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, she was friendly, sweet and social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Kimmy was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Kimmy was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Kimmy appears to be sociable, and did not display any behavior concerns during safer, but she has been reported to strongly correct other dogs when uncomfortable, so the department feels she would likely do best with an “experience” adopter and it is recommended that introductions with other dogs are done slowly. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. She lifts her head when hand is pushed against his cheek. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-to-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Kimmy is tense at the fence so is muzzled. Once in the pen, she is unsure at first then becomes more comfortable and greets the other dog politely, using her front paws to solicit play. The muzzle is removed and she remains comfortable and polite, correcting strongly once when the other dog licks her ear.
08/19/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs, Kimmy is tense at the fence so is muzzled. Once in the pen, she is unsure at first then becomes more comfortable and greets the other dog politely, using her front paws to solicit play. The muzzle is removed and she remains comfortable and polite, correcting strongly once when the other dog licks her ear. 8/20 update: Kimmy greets politely at the gate and maintains a loose body once introduced to the helper dog. She will offer brief solicitations but does not engage in play. 8/21 update: Kimmy greets politely and may attempt to mount. She is tolerant of mounting. 8/25 update: Kimmy solicits play and will engage in play with a playful male. She is a bit uncomfortable when interacting with a playful female. 8/27 update: Kimmy is social and engages in running play with a playful male. She is respectful with a less playful dog. 8/28 update: Kimmy greets well but will then mount the other dogs; she responds well to correction. She becomes anxious when the interaction is over and attempts to exit the pen.
