08/25/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/25/15 19:02 BASIC INFO Junior is a 5 year old American Staffordshire Terrier / Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix. His family got him 2 years ago when he was left at their door (his owner is a super of an apt building). Due to unforseen circumstances, he doesn’t have a place for his dogs anymore. He rehomed 3 of his 14 dogs and is surrendering the rest. SOCIALIZATION Junior is friendly and outgoing with strangers. He lived with a child who’s currently 5 years old and is relaxed, playful, and tolerant with him. He plays exuberantly with people. Junior lived with 13 other large dogs. He’s relaxed and playful with females and respectful of males. He plays gently with other dogs. He growls at cats through his fence. He’s never bit any people or animals. BEHAVIOR Junior doesn’t mind storms. He’s friendly with strangers who approach his home/family. He loves baths with the hose. He doesn’t mind when someone takes his food/treat/toy, moves him off furniture, holds/restrains him, wakes him up, or brushes him. He’s nervous during nail trims. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Junior’s family describes him as friendly, affectionate, playful, mellow, excitable, and medium energy. They love that he’s attentive to and obedient with them. He follows his family around and his favorite activities include playing with children and cuddling with all people. He likes to play chase. He lived inside and ate dry Pedigree and Purina foods. He loves rice and beans as a treat. He’s housetrained and never has accidents. He potties on cement. He’s well-behaved while home alone. He is well-behaved while outside alone within his 8′ chain link fence for short periods of time, but whines to be let inside after a while. He’s crate-trained and does well in his crate during maintenance in his home. He knows sit. He went for brisk walks and pulls on his leash. INTAKE Junior had a loose, wiggly body, wagging tail, and open mouth during handling-scan (-), collar, petting, switching leashes, positioning for pictures, and putting into a kennel. He took treats very gently.
08/28/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Junior sighs softly in his kennel. He so wants to get my attention. He eyes me insistently. He is quite cute with his piggy ears (usually one up and one down) and his legs slightly shorter than his body. Junior is soo ready to go out. He barely pulls on the leash and marks his territory. I can understand. Junior lived with 13 other dogs and it is important for respect to mark one’s boundaries. He is quite a good looking lad, dressed in a shiny latte coat. Lots of calluses, may be the result of staying in the yard. Across the board, though, Junior looks like a healthy pooch. He can sit on command for food or a ball and gets a little impatient when I do not deliver right away. He takes food gently though from my hand and jumps and runs like a young boy after the ball. He is fine with me taking it out of his mouth. Cuddling…Junior knows what it is all about. He loves caresses, scratches all over and tons of kisses. It is obvious that even that he was one of many, Junior was loved and loved his family. Junior, who is five years old, was found two years ago at the doorsteps of his former master who already owned a large pack of dogs. They all mingled and lived in peace. Cats were not welcome. Junior was known to cuddle with all, to be attentive and obedient. In a nutshell, a great family dog. Well, Junior is with us now as his master lost his home and so are 2 of his housemates, Carmen and King. We so hope that a new owner or family will have him join their home and make him their wonderful forever best friend. Junior is at the Manhattan Care Center.
