12/11/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
12/11/15 19:07 Basic information: Henna is a 3 year old female Pitt Bull who was brought in as a stray. She was being watched by a care taker for her previous owner for about a month. She has no known injuries or health problems. The main thing her caretaker liked most about her was; she’s loveable. Social Life and Personality: Around children Henna is aggressive and growls. Around other dogs she is relaxed and playful and exuberant at play. She was not around cats in her previous home. She is house-trained but had accidents a few times a week if not walked regularly. She was kept indoors only and has a very high activity level. She can be described as playful, pushy, confident, excitable, affectionate and friendly. Behavior: Henna has never bitten a person or animal. If her food bowl is touched while eating she would continue eating and would lick the hand, she had a wagging tail and became playful. She was playful if someone tried to take a toy or treat out of her mouth while playing or eating. She was not allowed on furniture. She wasn’t bothered if her paws were touch or if her coat was brushed. If she is held or restrained she wiggles out of the grip and becomes playful. She was friendly if an unfamiliar person approached the home or her previous owner. She isn’t bothered if she is disturbed while sleeping. For a New Family to Know: Henna knows how to sit on command. For exercise she went on brisk walks 2 times a day. She was crate trained and does well for 12 hours. When her caretaker was home she would tend to follow her around and when left alone she would bark. She isn’t bothered by loud noises. She ate dry dog food and at night she slept in her dog crate. Behavior During Intake: Henna had a wagging tail and wiggly body throughout intake. She allowed me to pet her, collar her, and take pictures. She sat on command, jumped for attention, and licked my face and hands. She showed no signs of aggression.
12/15/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Music to my ears…The lyrics and the melody are beautiful… All about love. Henna indeed makes lots of little snorting and whaling sounds as she moves around or asks for cuddles. She shines by her sociable and friendly disposition toward us humans, a trait picked by the person who relinquished her to us together with gorgeous Dice. She is anxious to come out of her kennel and be in company. All what she wants are the arms of her person, being hugged and kissed galore. Her tail wags non stop. We are told she enjoys being with other dogs although she was a bit shy and nervous in her first playgroup here at the center. She meets with a friendly attitude other pooches in the street. Henna and Dice were doggy-sat for one month then brought to us as their owner never picked them up. Henna comes with lovely comments… Playful, loving and loveable, very active, house trained and crate trained (for up to 12 hours). For some unexplained reason, Henna would not be fond of children. Of course, there are kids and kids. Henna will need a meet and greet if she is to be adopted into a house with children. Come and meet Henna at the Manhattan Care Center. She is one needy love bug sure to embellish your life as your forever best friend.
12/14/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Henna came into our center along with another large dog as an owner surrender. It is reported Henna will growl at children, is relaxed and playful around other dogs and plays exuberantly with them. Behavior around cats is unknown. She is described as playful, pushy, confident, excitable, affectionate, and friendly. It is reported Henna is not bothered if someone touches her food, toys, or treats. Henna is reportedly crate trained and is used to spending extended amounts of time in her crate when owner was out. During intake, she had a wagging tail and wiggly body, allowing all handling. She walked nicely on leash for her relief walk, no pulling. Henna allowed her head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, tail wagging. She leaned into assessor during Look item, ears back, tail wagging. Henna followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, body soft, settling easily at end of game. She quickly pulled her paw back on both Squeeze attempts. Henna shyed away from the Toy that was presented to her, backing away uncomfortably. When off leash with other dogs Henna greets politely then spends her time exploring the yard. Due to surrender profile explaining discomfort with children, the Behavior Team feels Henna would do best with an Experienced adopter that does not have any children. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth, tail wag. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1 / 2: 2. Dog quickly pulls back paw. Toy 1. No interest. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs Henna greets politely then spends her time exploring the yard.
12/12/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Henna has been uncomfortable with interaction with other dogs while in our care. She is avoidant of interaction when approached. However, the surrenderer reports that around other dogs, Henna is “relaxed and playful and exuberant”. Based on surrender profile and observation made while in our care, the behavior department recommends that Henna be given a pre-adoption interaction for Henna before direct placement into a home with a resident dog. When off leash with other dogs Henna greets politely then spends her time exploring the yard. 12/13: Henna is tense during greeting and attempts to avoid the helper dog. 12/14: Henna is avoidant of interaction.
