03/28/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: ‘The ball, the ball…..’ For those of us old enough to remember the TV show Fantasy Island, the character Tattoo watches for new guests to the Island, calling out ‘the plane, the plane’ as it arrives. As Godie watches the ball in my hand, tail wagging and waiting for the throw I just picture the thought in his head, ‘the ball, the ball’! Adopted, then returned to us for personal problems, back to his owner, and now found as a ‘stray’, I can only imagine what is going through Godie’s head at being back with us again. Gorgeously groomed in a gleaming auburn coat, his amber eyes sparkle as I unlatch his door. He’s very housetrained, peeing endlessly the moment we’re outside. His leash manners are good and when we stop in the park to take some pictures he poses for me perfectly. As other dogs pass us in the park he watches them carefully and it’s in the back yard that I see how much he seems to like other dogs. Play bowing to dogs on the other side of the gate, his tail wags in happy excitement. It’s when I bring out a tennis ball that I have Godie’s full attention! He’s a rockstar fetch player, bounding after the ball, bringing it back, dropping it and then taking a couple of steps back giving me space to pick it up. He’s AWESOME! He sits when I ask him to, waiting for the throw, and he’s so clearly well mannered but excited waiting for the throw I could have spent hours with him just playing fetch. If you’re looking for a ball player for your home team, Godie is the boy you want on your side. He’s neutered and ready to come home with you. Gorgeous with just the right amount of happy energy, he needs you now.
03/27/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Godie walks calmly on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Godie did a lot of jumping up, body checking and played tug-of-war with the leash during tag interaction. He growled and bit the assess-a-hand during the food bowl test. Godie was not interested in toys or rawhide. He was relaxed when approaching a friendly dog, but was not playful. Godie shows a big of concern during the resources guarding biting the assess-a-hand during the food bowl test. Godie during the tag interaction was grabbing at the leash with a bit stiff body language. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home.
