05/19/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: There would be no Botox if we all looked as beautiful with worry lines as this little foxy fox of a girl. Dora scrunches up her face to such enchanting effect it is most difficult to leave her. And who wants to, when instead there could be a rousing game of ball and affectionate pats? Dora has lovely manners, spinning in circles to show her delight with people rather than jumping, and she appears housetrained. Dora’s so easy to admire–won’t you let her share her beauty with the world? The circle-spinning she can reserve especially for you, her rescuer and forever friend.
05/18/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Dora was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, low wag. At times she was a bit uncomfortable with handing would shoulder rub and lip licks but allowed for all tactical handling to be completed. She engages in play, loose body, wags tail, mouth is open and settles quickly once assessor ceases movement. Dora was a bit difficult to push out of the food bowl, body a bit stiff. She kept a firm grip on the toy with a loose, wiggly body and kept a firm grip on the rawhide with a soft body but placed her body between the rawhide and the assessor. Dora was brought to the care center as a stray. Upon intake, Dora was extremely nervous, but she showed no signs of aggression and was very cooperative. Dora was friendly toward the assessor throughout the assessment. The Behavior Department believes Dora would do best in an experienced home that understands she may need time to warm up to new people and environments. Dora may also benefit from learning trade-up games and the “drop” command, as she was not easily pushed out of the food bowl and kept a firm grip on both the toy and rawhide. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Food 2. Dog follows the dish with her tail down, body a bit stiff. Dog lifts head after moderate amount of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Rawhide 2. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is between you and the rawhide, and she is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Dog – dog 2. Dog approaches the helper dog, body soft, tail spine level, ears forward.
