05/17/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
05/17/15 14:25 BASIC INFORMATION Chyna was found on 163rd street in the bronx on 5/16/2015. The finder reported that he found her walking the street and took her in overnight then brought her in. No further information was given. BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE During intake, China was very fearful and did not allow handling. She did not allow scanning or collaring. She allowed to be leashed but finder had to help put her into a kennel. After a couple of hours of being in the location, she began to have a loose body and wagging tail in the kennel. She barked and whined when we would pass her. She took food and water and allowed us to take her out of the kennel. She then allowed to be collared and scanned in which she scanned positive for a mircochip. She took treats and layed on the floor and allowed us to give her belly rubs. She rolled around happily as we all laughed and as we doted on her. She seemed to perfer male attention because she took to one of the male staff. Everytime he walked away she barked and whined for him to come back to get her. She sat with him and followed his commands and took treats from him. She was very friendly and wagged her tail.
05/27/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: She’s funny, this one: A petite blonde with a voice like a canine Mae West–deep and raspy, as if she’s been drinking Scotch and smoking cigarettes. China, who appears housetrained, really enjoys playing ball and is so grateful to the people who take her for walks, but it’s clear she would rather be somewhere else. On a walk she is warm and relaxed, but in the backyard she is stressed, not sure about other dogs, and prone to stand by the fence trying to dig her way out. We feel sure she’d agree: Her final destination doesn’t need to be close to her namesake–down the block would be lovely if it offers this pup a home of her own! Another volunteer writes: Miss China is always excited to come out for a walk with whomever is willing to take her. Her coloring is subtle and gorgeous and reminds me of a creamsicle ice cream pop from my childhood. Vanilla on the inside, coated with orange on the outside. Yum! Energetic and friendly, China is delighted to chomp on a toy. She’s always smiling, always wagging her tail and always ready to play, play play. Her other favorite thing to do is get a belly rub, and as she flops over on her side, her legs in the air she gives in to bellies with a wiggle and a sigh. Miss China prefers to be your one and only pup, and with the love and energy she’s happy to give to her new person, she’ll be all you’ll ever want. Gorgeous and effervescent, China is ready to begin her happily ever after with you, today.
05/20/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
China was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, low wag. She was friendly toward the assessor but would repeatedly vocalize in attempt to solicit attention throughout the assessment from the assessor and assistant. China was distracted and focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag interaction. It took a bit of pressure to push her out of the food bowl, but had neutral language. She relinquished the toy to the assessor and kept a firm grip on the rawhide with a loose, wiggly body. China came to the care center as a stray. Upon intake, she was very nervous at first but opened up to the staff and was friendly and continually attempted to solicit attention. She was friendly toward the assessor but became very vocal when soliciting attention. China did not show any signs of aggression toward the assessor, however, she became reactive during the dog-to-dog portion of the assessment. China showed some anxious behaviors; lick lipping and whining throughout the assessment, the Behavior Department believes she would do best as the only pet in an experienced home with no young children that allows her time to warm up to new people and environments. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands leans into the assessor and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is open. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (needs coaxing to approach.) she is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds, licks Assessor’s hand. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed or back. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food 2. Dog follows the dish with her tail down, body neutral. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you. Rawhide 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the rawhide. Dog – dog 4.
