05/16/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helper Dog:A1024540 Bill came into the care center as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. Upon arrival to the care center Bill was reported to be fearful, and he was reported to be nervous during his medical exam, but was tolerant of all handling. During SAFER Bill did not solicit attention, but was receptive to attention when given. He was nervous during the handling, but his body was soft, and he allowed the assessor to conduct all handling items without issue. Bill was relaxed during the tag interaction, and he was easy to handle when engaged with the food and rawhides, but was not interest in the toys. During the dog-dog interaction Bill had stiff body language with a high tail when approaching the helper dog. The department feels bill would be best suited with an experienced adopter, and a slow approach during introductions is recommended. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is soft but fearful; his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back. Dog licks hand Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push him out. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the rawhide. Dog-dog: 3. Dog approaches the helper dog by rushing in with his tail high, stiff body, head tall, and ears erect.
05/23/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When interacting off leash with other dogs, Bill is stiff and seems uncomfortable. When entering the yard with a female helper dog, he greeted her respectfully, but stiffly. He then placed his head over her shoulders, aligning his body perpendicular to hers. The female dog escalated the situation into conflict. Both dogs were quick to utilize their mouths.
