05/15/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Blanca previously lived with 3 adults and 1 child of the age of 10. Blanca was reported to be playful with the 10 year old and relaxed towards the owner, but it was mentioned that Blanca did not get along with an adult house member who lived with the owner and Blanca attempted to bite but didn’t break skin. Blanca was reported to be relaxed and tolerant around other dogs, as well as the cat she lived with. The owner did mention that Blanca is not friendly towards everyone, and needs time to get to know you before physically interacting. Blanca was said to have a medium activity level, and she is well behaved when left home alone. The owner also noted that Blanca is housetrained. Upon intake Blanca was reported to be calm and relaxed, but she was not receptive to introductions from the Counselor, and growled when approached. During SAFER Blanca was not sociable and was more interested in her surroundings. She did allow some handling without issue, but became stiff and snapped at the assessor during the paw handling item. Due to this response no other handling was attempted. Blanca also showed some concerns during the food item; became stiff and did not lift her head from the food bowl, and she was not interested in the toy or rawhide items. The department recommends placement with a New Hope partner so that the behavior seen at the time of the assessment can be more fully explored before adoption into a permanent home. Look: 3. Dog will not allow the assessor to hold her head, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is open for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft and a bit distracted. Squeeze 1: 5. Dog snaps at assessor. Food: 4. Dog freezes Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest.
