05/15/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Lady came into the care center as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake she was reported to be fearful, but she was tolerant of all handling during her medical exam. During SAFER Lady had a stiff and fearful body posture, and repeatedly attempted to get away from the assessor. She did allow some handling, but became stiff and uncomfortable during the tag interaction. Lady also showed some discomfort during the paw handling item and snapped at the assessor when an attempt was made to reach for her paw. Due to this response and safety concerns no other handling was attempted. During the resources portion of the assessment Lady was easily pushed out of the food bowl, and did not show any interest in the toys, and only minimal interest in the rawhides. Due to the behavior concerns seen on SAFER the department recommends placement with a New Hope partner so the behaviors displayed can be more fully explored before adoption into a permanent home. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is stiff and fearful; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears back, lip licks. Tag: 3. Dog repeatedly spins toward the touch, and repeatedly tries to exit. Dog is crouching, tail is tucked, mouth closed, body stiff. Squeeze 1: 5. Dog snaps at assessor. Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push her out. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, dog licks, then turns away. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs Lady is nervous and keeps her tail tucked. She greets briefly then avoids interaction.
