03/19/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
03/19/15 16:53 Nikki was found tethered in the park. She was very friendly and playful/excited with her finders, two teenage girls. She had loose wiggly body, wagging tail, and open mouth during handling-scan (+), collar, switching leashes, removing harness and sweater, petting. She jumped up on me a little while I pet her. When her finders left, she cried, panted, and jumped up towards the door repeatedly. When I sat next to and pet her, she rolled onto her side and whined very quietly with open mouth, closing eyes, and wagging tail while I pet her tummy. She took treats gently and sat when asked.
03/30/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Nikki is a delicate, petite young lady – a true treasure and an adorable pleasure to behold. On leash, she trots as lightly as a young ballerina, dancing through the park with delicate little steps. While her manners are quite grand, her curious nature peeks through when a leaf comes swirling down and rests on the park bench we occupy. Her eyes light up as she nudges the leaf, then gingerly holds it between her paws. Free in the backyard, Nikki proves to be an able athlete, running after a thrown soft toy and then releasing it to continue the play. She is also a treat lover, taking little biscuits quietly and gently from my hand. Although Nikki joined us a stray, her lovely coat and nice nails suggest she was a family pet until just recently. She also appears house-trained, taking care of business once outside, comes when called and responds nicely to “sit”. So, if you’re looking for a gentle companion with lovely manners suitable for city or country, come see Nikki today. Let her light up your life! Another volunteer updates: High 5 Nikki! And she does – with both paws!! Adopted from us a while ago, and now back as a ‘stray’, Nikki is a petite, gorgeous little girl who’s delighted to make new friends. Likely housetrained she took care of her business as soon as we were out the door, and then shows off lovely leash manners as we walk to the park. Her tail wags, her face smiles, and when she pulls slightly on the leash its only her happiness at being out for a walk. Her coat is shiny, her weight perfect for her size. Off leash in a backyard pen she’s not interested in playing ball, but shows off her perfect sit in exchange for a treat which she takes gently. And then, HIGH 5! Love that! As other dogs pass our pen she wags her tail in happy greeting, looking to make other canine friends. Found abandoned in Central Park, Miss Nikki is looking for a new family who is as ready to love her forever, as she is ready to love them. Come meet our awesome girl today.
03/21/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Nikki pulls a bit on the leash. She was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up. She was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. Nikki was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. She ate faster, was stiff and very difficult to push out of the food bowl, but did not growl, snap or bite. Nikki took the toy and rawhide away but had soft body language. Nikki rushed in quickly during the dog-dog test, but showed no aggression. Nikki is an active dog she need a significant amount of exercise and mental stimulation. She show a bit of concern during the food bowl test she need and adopter that can follow up on this behavior and can provide her some positive reinforcement. The behavior department feels that she can go to an experience home. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 3.
