03/25/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Eyes like two gemstones gleaming in a handsome face, Bernardo wags his tail, gives a shake to his ample physique and thus we meet. Abandoned near the Fordham Library in the Bronx, Bernardo is pursing his continuing education at ACC, meeting new people and making canine friends. His coat gleams with apparent good care, he’s been well fed, and he’s likely housetrained. He seems to like to pee in dirt, and when we pass a little patch of earth he paws a little hole and then pees into it. How smart (and cute!) is he!? He pulls a bit on the leash but is responsive to correction and easily managed despite his robust size. Greeting other dogs with an appropriate wave of his tail, its clear that he would love to play, and when a dog was in an adjoining pen he cried wanting to play. Perhaps because of his good looks and fun personality, Bernardo is already a staff favorite, and as we walk through the hallway staff calls out their greetings to him. Bernardo aced his behavior assessment indicating he’ll be a good fit in just about any home. He’s fun, can be a bit jumpy in play, but listens and is responsive. He’ll do well in an active home where good walks and lots of play time are on the daily ‘to do’ list. Ask to meet him today.

He showed no interest in food, toy, or rawhide. Bernardo came to the care center as a stray. He has remained friendly since intake and was easy to handle throughout the assessment. Bernardo engaged in play during the tag portion of the assessment and was calmed easily after the game ended.
