03/27/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Linus came in as a stray surrender so his past behavior in a home is unknown. Upon intake it was noted that Linus was very loose and wiggly. He was receptive to all handling and allowed an Admissions Counselor collar him. During SAFER Linus was very sociable and appeared interested in interacting with the assessor. He allowed all handling items without issue, and playfully mouthed the leash during the tag interaction. Linus did not show any concerning behaviors during the resources portion of the assessment, and was easily to handle when engaged, but he did occasionally become focused on mouthing the leash (no aggression) between each item and also when exiting the room. Although Linus is very sociable he does become focused on mouthing the leash, seems like play behavior but can be difficult to distract, so an experienced adopter that is able to provide leash training is recommended. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Dog playfully mouthed the leash. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. He lifts his head when hand is pushed against his cheek. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog smells, then turns away. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Linus will offer play bows and engages in a bit of rough and rowdy play. He then just wanders the yard and is respectful and tolerant of the helper dog.
