05/11/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Chico was friendly toward the assessor when coaxed but was more interested in the surroundings than the handler during the assessment. He allowed for all tactical items to be completed but was often not focused on the assessor. He was relaxed when playing tag with assessor and followed at the end of the leash with a soft body. Chico was difficult to push out of the food bowl and his body was a bit stiff. He had no interest in toys but took away the rawhide and his body was a bit stiff. Chico was brought to the care center as a stray. Upon intake he was loose and allowed for all handling, he would whine for attention when not being petted. Chico was easily distracted by other stimuli in the room during the assessment, but was friendly when his attention was directed toward the assessor. The Behavior Department believes Chico should go to an experienced home with no young child that understands he showed some potential to guard during the food and rawhide portion of the assessment and can manage and positively modify any guarding behavior that may manifest in the home. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture but is not focused and on second pass begins movement unconnected to the Assessor. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed or back. Food: 3. Dog follows the dish, his tail between his legs, ears are forward. His body is a bit stiff. Dog lifts head from the bowl when ample pressure is applied from hand to his cheek. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 2. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. His body is a bit stiff. Dog-Dog: When off leash with other dogs, Chico greets politely at the gate and offers a play bow. He show slight sexually motivated behaviors but is generally respectful and polite to another dog.
