07/24/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Zounds came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake Zounds was calm, relaxed with his tail wagging and allowed all handling. During SAFER Zounds came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, he was friendly and social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Zounds joins the game during the tag interaction and during the resources portion of the assessment Zounds was easy to handle when engaged with the items. When off leash with other male dog, Zounds has shown not to take correction well from other dogs and has given disproportionate responses that had led to an escalation. Due to this information the behavior department feels Zounds would do best in an experience home with no other dogs. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog might jump on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. He lifts his head when hand is pushed against his cheek. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-to-dog: When greeting a male who was giving signals to give him space, Zounds gave a disproprorinate response/correction which led to an escalation. He was seperated and removed from the yard.
07/22/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Off leash Zounds greets appropriately and is tolerant, but he seems very interested in exploring and sniffing the yard. Initially, he is a bit stiff but after becoming familiar and comfortable with his surroundings he does engage in brief running play and is a bit sexually motivated. He seems to handle corrections for mounting approriately. 7/23 update: When greeting a male who was giving signals to give him space, Zounds gave a disproprorinate response/correction which led to an escalation. He was seperated and removed from the yard. 7/24 update: Zounds continues to give disproportionate responses to appropriate corrections from a female when greeting, which causes an escalation. He is seperated and removed from the yard.
