08/17/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Zane was very fearful and nervous when entering the assessment, he would not approach the handler and when approached he would crouch lower to the ground and tremble. He was given a moment to try and warm up to the assessor but remained cautious with his body a bit stiff. He allowed the first few handling items to be conducted, but became very uncomfortable with paw handling and raised his lip. When the assessor attempted move to flank, the dog tried to bite when trying to move into positioning. The assessor opted to move on to resources for safety reasons. Zane had no interest in food, toy or rawhide. Zane was surrendered to the care center; upon intake, he had a loose body and wagging tail, allowing all handling to be conducted. Zane lived with another small dog that he was surrendered with. Zane was very fearful and cautious during the assessment and became progressively less comfortable with handling, especially during items when the assessor had to hold his collar, resulting in him attempting to bite on the last assessment item. Due to the behavior displayed in the assessment, the Behavior Department recommends Zane be placed with a New Hope Partner that can follow up on his behavior in a more stable environment and allow him the time to warm up to new people and environments at his own pace. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is stiff and fearful, his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body stiff and in a crouched position, mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, lip lick. Tag: 2. Dog is fearful but unresponsive when touched. Approaches the Assessor when the game ends. Dog is likely crouching, lip lick, and tries to exit the game. Squeeze 1: 4. Dog becomes stiff, lip licks and raises lip. Flank squeeze 1: 5. Dog tries to bite. Food: No interest Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 2.
