06/21/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Washington came to us with tiny peppy Georgia and gorgeous Hawai. He is a masterpiece of a dog, cared for beautifully by a person who found himself unfortunately unable to keep his pets anymore. Washington is right now a bit under the weather as he suffers from a cold. This is why he looks sad in his pictures. This is not the Washington I met when he first arrived at the care center, strong but manageable, sociable and even coming on the lap. He is majestic and imposing but he is a friendly guy. Do not be fooled by his looks. In playgroup with other pooches, he seeks contact, plays a little, has an eye for the ladies but also simply uses his leash-free time to explore the open pens. He is without doubt, very much house trained, sits on command and comes when called, even if Washington is probably not his name. Washington stands out… a silvery statue, so perfectly made by mother nature and so wonderfully maintained by an owner who cared. Washington is really hoping that his good luck star will shine. Come and meet this handsome boy at Manhattan Care Center and take him home as your forever best friend.
06/19/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Washington pulls a bit on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Washington was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. Washington was not interested in toys or rawhide. Washington did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide 1. No interest. Washington is social and engages in brief bouts of play. He is more interested in exploring his surroundings.
