A volunteer writes: Roll up, roll up! The kissing booth is now officially open and Verte’s working overtime! If you’re having ‘one of those days’ there’s no better remedy than our resident smooching machine. Spend just a few minutes with this doggie Romeo and we guarantee you’ll be smiling again in no time! The fun starts with his goofy good looks, a combo of low-riding sausage body, short legs, turned-out feet and an ear-to-ear grin that just won’t quit and it only gets better from there. Lap snuggles? Verte’s (literally) got you covered. Ball chasing? He enthusiastically plays along but never picks it up — zero guarding issues! Doggie socializing? Yes, please! Leash etiquette and bathroom breaks? This guy knows the score and he’s all about the nicely paced trotting and well-timed pooping. As we make our way down the street Verte greets every adult, child and dog he sees with happy enthusiasm and if the humans should happen to have a pizza in hand or be about to take a car ride then he’ll throw in some extra tail wags and even more doe-eyed pleading for free. He comes when called, likes to softly snarfle treats and is always ready to offer up more hugs and kisses — all you have to do is ask! Little kids want to pet him, staff proclaim their love for him and after just one date I’ve fallen head-over-heels for this snuggly superstar. Fill your life with more love and laughter than you ever thought possible by welcoming Verte home today! Another volunteer writes: I had the chance to meet Verte last night. He is the cutest… a Basset Hound in disguise, a low rider with a long body, outwardly feet, a Pittie face and very dark eyes looking at me sooo tenderly. Verte, a small youngster, is indeed a must to meet and spend time with. I cannot understand how he has not been scooped up yet. Adorable looks, great manners, very “suave” sides and a fantastic behavioral evaluation. Verte is great on the leash, house trained and the quintessential lap dog. He likes treats but not my famous roast beef. What he is really after… my vanilla cookies. Well, I will make an exception for Verte. One, and just one. Verte was delighted. Verte is a great little guy, unusual-looking, a good, friendly and loving soul, the perfect companion who will always answer your calls for play, outings, or the need for a shoulder to unload a heavy day. Yes, Verte IS the best friend you are dreaming of. He is at the Manhattan Care Center, hoping to see you very soon.
05/19/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Verte pulls a bit on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up. Verte was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. He was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Verte was a bit difficult to push out of the food bowl, but had soft body language. He took the rawhide with a soft body language but was not interested in toys. Verte appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an experienced adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with his tail down, body likely a bit stiff. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the rawhide. When off leash with other dogs Verte greets and may be sexually interested. He follows the helper dog around whining.
05/17/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs Verte greets and may be sexually interested. He follows the helper dog around whining. 5/20 update: Verte continues to exhibit the same whining behaviors. He attempts to solicit a submissive female but corrects when she attempts to engage. He may escalate and over correct when she attempts to engage in running play. 5/21 update: Verte is sexually motivated but takes correction. He will appropriately correct when the other dog is attempting to engage him in bouncy play.
