MEDICAL: scan negative, intact male, weight: 90.2lbs, bright eyes, clean ears, clean coat with some dead fur – needs a brushing, mild staining to teeth along with gingivitis, nails down to kwick, overall body condition is good, slightly tense during exam, APH, BARH, NOSF
PROFILE: Sonic is a stray Germane Shepherd that appears to be 3 years old. Sonic was found roaming the street alone. When found he appeared friendly. Finder stated that Sonic allowed petting and was very friendly.
During intake Sonic’s body was tense. Sonic hard bark at counselor and lunged. He did not allowed to be photographed or collard. He became reactive towards other dogs insight. Sonic was very tense and struggled going into his cage.
Sonic’s body was tense during intake and guarding the finder. He did not allow to be photographed and began hard barking and lunging. Finder also stated that the dog was found with a choke chain. Counselor was unable to touch the dog due to his reactive behavior during intake.
SAFER: EXPERIENCED HOME, NO CHILDREN
Sonic came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake Sonic was tense, hard barking and lunged at the counselor he did not allow to be photographed or collard. During SAFER Sonic came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, allowed all handling items to be conducted, when the first paw squeeze was attempt his mouth was closed and became stiff then flank was applied and he didn’t respond at all, Sonic was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Sonic was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Due to some concerns with Sonic becoming tense and uncomfortable during paw squeeze, the behavior department feels its best he can go home to an experience adopter with no children.
Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft.
Squeeze 1: 3. Dog closes mouth, becomes stiff.
Flank squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all.
Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push him out.
Toy 1: No interest.
Rawhide: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is between you and the toy or rawhide, and he is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness.
PLAYGROUP BEHAVIOR: When off leash with other dogs Sonic greets politely but is more interested in exploring his surroundings.
