A volunteer writes: I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Skyler, a tiny speck of a girl, jet black with white mittens and enamel like lively nut brown eyes. She was so serious, laying in the middle of her kennel although she left right away her couch when she saw me at her door. Her first photoshoot showed a stern and sad little face. May be the grey roses around her neck did not help…Let’s go for a walk around the block…. Skyler walks beautifully on the leash and relieved herself at once as we left the building. We met quite a number of dogs, boys and girls. Skyler was totally cool with them. As I talked to another volunteer, she iddled next to a little Chihuahua and was completely fine with him. Back in the yard, free in a pen, Skyler’s mood was all perky. She was hungry and so ready to jump and snatch my treats. Not so fast, young lady. One has to sit to get chicken strips…She complied like a good girl… She came to my lap, settled comfortably and gave me kiss after kiss…Her eyes were happy and laughing. A lovely smile was adorning her face…Skyler is very thin under a well groomed shiny coat. Her nails are very long, she counts a number of calluses and her shoulders and knees are bent. Malnutrition ? Crated for too long periods of time? Who knows really what Skyler’s life really was before to enter the care center. Skyler is a small gal, strangely already spayed, young and lively and so ready to jump into your life, make you happy, enjoy your love, your guidance and be your very forever best friend. Come and meet her soon at the Manhattan Care Center
09/05/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Skyler pulls a bit on leash. She was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, wagging tail. She was calm and relaxed during handling. Skyler did a lot of jumping up, body checking and played tug-of-war with the leash during tag interaction. She did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. Skyler was not interested in toys or rawhide. She rushed in quickly during the dog-dog test, but showed no aggression. Skyler show a bit of concern during the tag interaction she became a bit over arousal. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture.
