04/22/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Simba will never go un-noticed. He has the most unusual face with his puffed cheeks, his lively little almond eyes and butterfly ears. He is a well nourished dumpling, dressed in a perfect brindley coat and waits anxiously at his door, his nose close to the lock, to be taken out. Simba’s hallmark though, is not his looks but his love for other dogs. He is so great at playbowing that he looks like he is doing push ups at a gym. It is so silly. He is really very endearing to watch. Although a bit stressed, Simba who is only 6 months old, is a very friendly character who likes to be caressed and comes on the lap or on the bench next to me for hugs. He pulls a little on the leash and does his business in the yard or the street. He could be housetrained or partially. He welcomes staff who come to say hello but is not too happy to go back to his kennel. We certainly do understand. Simba was found as a stray and is hoping that a new owner or family will fall in love with him and take him home as their forever best friend. Simba is waiting at the Manhattan Care Center.
04/18/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Simba pulls a bit on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up. Simba was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. He was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Simba was not interest in food, toy or rawhide. Simba rushed in quickly during the dog-dog test, but showed no aggression. Simba is an active dog he need a significant amount of exercise and mental stimulation. The behavior department feels that he can go to an experience home. Look: 3.
