04/22/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Karia was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up, licked hands and face. She was very social and excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. She engages in play, loose body, wags tail, mouth is open, and comes toward the Assessor in a friendly manner when the Assessor ceases moving and jumps up. She had no interest in food or rawhide and had minimal interest in the toy. Karia was surrendered to the care center by her owner of 4 years. Her previous owners reported she lived with adults and children all ages and was relaxed and playful towards everyone in the household. The owners also stated that she is relaxed and playful towards other dogs and tolerant of cats. Karia’s previous owners also noted that she is not bothered when her food bowl is touched, has a medium activity level, is well behaved when home alone, and may be shy at first when meeting strangers but warms up quickly. Karia showed no concerns during her assessment. She is an active dog who the Behavior Department believes can go to an experienced home that can provide her with physical and mental stimulation. The behavior department suggests that Karia go to a home without other dogs due to the behavior demonstrated when off leash with other dogs. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is open. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog might jump on Assessor once play ends. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Licks hand. Food: No interest. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog smells and licks, then turns away. Rawhide: No interest. Dog-Dog: When greeting dogs off leash, Karia wags her tail and appears interested in interacting. She anxiously whines and then will growl at the gate at the other dog
