07/17/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Shelly came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. It was reported Shelly was exuberant for introduction and had loose body language, she allowed all handling upon intake. During her relief walk she pulls very strongly on the leash. During SAFER Shelly came into the assessment room loose and wiggly with her mouth open, she was social towards the assessor, she allowed some most of the handling items. During tag-interaction she growled with stiff body language. During food item she bit the assess-a-hand when removing the food bowl away from her, toy item she showed no interest and rawhide item she takes away body between the assessor and the item. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 5. Dog growls. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Food: 5. Dog tries to bite. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 2. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is between you and the rawhide, and she is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Dog-to-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Shelly is a bit stiff at intro. Relaxes and offers brief bouts of gently/dainty play. Likes interacting with handlers. Tolerant.
