07/13/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
07/13/15 09:29 Arturo A1043785 is an older sweet gentleman shorthaired tan colored Chihuahua whom was found wandering the streets of the Bronx two evenings ago. The finder came upon him and stated Arturo was friendly and allowed her to pick him up. The finder placed some fliers in their neighborhood in hopes someone would come forward and claim Arturo unfortunately with no such luck and due to pet restrictions the finder wasn’t able to keep him any longer. The finder stated Arturo appeared to be housebroken (he didn’t “go” inside their home) and he was walked 3x a day. He ate Cesar’s wet food, slept on some linen and was well behaved when left in the home alone. During intake Arturo was super sweet and friendly, he had a loose body. When approached he would wag his tail & solicit attention/affection. Arturo gave kisses and lay quietly on the admission counselors’ lap while they finished his intake. He allowed all handling, Arturo allowed to be scanned (-), collared and taken pictures of. He was placed on the ground briefly and he stayed by the admissions counselors side.
07/16/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Arturo…..I am in love…He is no spring chick but a delicious tiny fawn dumpling that won my heart. Arturo is often seen resting in his kennel but he is quick to come to his gate when he sees some interest. He is so gentle and so sweet looking with his begging eyes. Arturo is quite small. I scoop him up with one hand and carry him tightly against my chest. He so reminds me of my beloved Gordon I adopted 6 years ago from the Manhattan Care Center. He walks nicely, wagging his tail, on the leash and does his business without marking(there is no guarantee, though that he is housetrained). Two little dogs are met. Arturo is cool with them. He has absolutely no handling issues and looks to me like he will be one amazingly loving companion, loyal and sure to make an owner blessed to have him. Arturo has my vote. He is one swell Chihuahua! Come and meet him at the Manhattan Care Center and make him yours.
07/16/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Arturo came to our center as an owner surrender after a member of the public found him wandering in the street. Finder states he was friendly and allowed handling. During intake Arturo was friendly with a loose body. When approached he wagged his tail and solicited attention. Arturo held gaze for three full seconds during Look item, body soft. He stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, mouth closed, tail down. Arturo followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, body low and a bit cautious. He did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts. Arturo had no interest in Food, Toys, or Rawhide. When off leash with other dogs, Arturo is social and greets other dogs politely. The Behavior Team feels Arturo would do best in an Average home. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, mouth closed, lip long, ears back. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low and a bit cautious. Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back. Food: No interest Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-to-Dog: When off leash with other dogs, Arturo is social and greets other dogs politely.
