09/17/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Sargent came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. The finder that surrender Sargent mentioned he has been tearing up the door when he is left alone and he also bit the finder 3 weeks ago. The finder stated Sargent would growl whenever he would come close to him with the leash. During SAFER Sargent came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, he was not interested with the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Sargent was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Sargent was easy to handle when engaged with the items. During dog to dog interaction, when attempting to take Sargent out of his kennel he would bare his teeth and growled at the handler when it’s time to put the leash on him. Sargent did not show any of this behavior during his safer but he was a bit fearful. Due to Sargent previous bite history stated from the finder, the behavior department feels that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time.
