05/29/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Royal previously lived with adults, and the owners stated she has been exposed to children ages 10 – 13 years old. Royal was reported to be relaxed, affectionate and respectful towards everyone in the household, and the owner stated Royal is playful and gentle towards other dogs she interacts with. Royal was also reported to encounter a cat and she was tolerant and respectful. It was noted that Royal is both housetrained and paper trained, and the owner states when she is her crate for too long she will destroy toys, sheets and blankets. At intake Royal was reported to be docile and relaxed, and allowed all handling. During SAFER Royal was a bit shy, but remained close to the assessor. She allowed all handling without issue, and was a bit fearful during the tag item. During the resources portion of the assessment, Royal was resistant and took bigger bites when pushed out of the food bowl. She was not interested in the toys, and when engaged with the rawhide she held a firm grip and did not relinquish the item, but her body was soft. Due to the concerns seen during the food item, we recommend an experienced adopter that is able to manage, should this behavior continue in a home setting. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is down, body a bit tense, mouth closed, lip long, ears back. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Food: 3. Dog gulps food, begins to eat faster and with bigger bites, body stiff. She does not lift head when hand is applied to cheek. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 2. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is between you and the rawhide, and she is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Royal is very energetic and quite pushy and vocal when engaging in play.
