06/23/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Priceless gifts don’t always come in a fancy wrapper and neither does Rory but for those with eyes to see, his inner beauty shines bright as the sun. We do know that he lived with children and while he supposedly played a little rough sometimes, he loved his family and was relaxed and joyful around them and any other dogs he met. In the Care Center environment Rory is a little shy at first but once you have his trust there is no one gentler or more affectionate than he and his love comes with an unconditional guarantee. Rory’s slowly adjusting to life without his family and he’s happy to show off his wonderful manners whenever I come to take him out. He gently mouths treats from my fingers, walks fairly well on leash, takes care of his ‘business’ quickly and always responds immediately to my voice. He likes to be held, pet and snuggled and gives the most wonderful face snuffles and neck nuzzles in return but it’s not until another dog enters the yard that his tail goes up and the fun-loving puppy within comes out to play. As the low-key Bulldog on the other side of the fence watches with bemused good humor, Rory wiggles and waggles, jumps and shimmies and it’s clear that once safe and secure in a new home — especially one with some canine siblings — he will be a very happy pup indeed. I’m sooo in love with this gorgeous mushball and once you meet him you will be too. Don’t miss out on the chance to take home your very own ‘Paper Bag Prince’, make a date with Rory today.

Rory walks with a low fearful body language on leash. he was shy but friendly during the assessment – low body, but trying to stay close. Rory was shy during handling with a fearful body language. he was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Rory growled and bit the assess-a-hand during the food bowl and rawhide test. he was not interested in toys. Rory was surrender to us. According to his previous owner he lived with children and would play bite and be somewhat rough at times but mostly is relaxed and playful and is exuberant when playing. He has the same behavior when around dogs and has not been around cats so his behaviors is unknown”. Rory may require positive reinforcement behavior modification to address this food and rawhide guarding behavior. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home.
