A staff member writes: 8 month old Rocky is a puppy that you just cannot walk past without falling for those big eyes and squishy boxer-ISH face. He is always a joy to walk, and to see him be social and play with other dogs is heart melting — I promise this! I swear his tail touches his head before he rolls over for belly rubs, perhaps the cutest thing ever? I think SO! Rocky is all about the cuddles and kisses and is so gentle and dainty. Drop by the shelter and witness his absolute pure sweetness and LOVE!
11/24/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Rocky came into our center as an owner surrender citing housing issues. It is reported Rocky lived with adults and one teenage child, was relaxed, playful and respectful around them. Owner reports Rocky is nervous when first meeting strangers, but warms up. It is reported Rocky is gentle with other dogs but will chase cats. During his initial medical exam, Rocky allowed all handling, licking handler and wagging tail throughout exam. He walked slowly and cautiously during his relief walk. Rocky held gaze for three full seconds during Look item, low wag. He leaned into assessor during Sensitivity item, tail wagging, mouth closed. Rocky was uncomfortable during Tag item, body low, crouching at second pass. He gently pulled his paw back on both Squeeze attempts. Rocky had minimal interest in Toy, sniffing a few times before turning away. He approached the helper dog at an appropriate pace, tail wagging, ears relaxed, body soft. After the assessment, Rocky was affectionate and cuddling with handler. The Behavior Team feels Rocky would do best with an Experienced owner. He may need a significant amount of time to warm up so a slow introduction/slow approach may be best. Once comfortable, Rocky was soft and sociable. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 2. Follows at end of leash, body low and a bit fearful, crouched at second pass. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog may smell or lick, then turns away.
