06/02/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Rockford was difficult to remove from his kennel exhibiting some concern when we try to get them out (barking or charging at the gate). Once he was out he pulls a bit on the leash. He was stiff and did not show social behavior during the assessment. He was uncomfortable with handling; he stands tall, sometimes on his tiptoes, and tries to look large. His hair was standing up along his back and do not let the assessors handle him. During the look Rockford was giving a low growl and exposes his front teeth. We stopped the handling part for safety reason and move on with the resources. Rockford was not interested in food, toys or rawhide. He does not approach other dog, attempts to exit. Rockford was surrender to us. According to his previous owner He lived in a home with 9 adults, 2 teenagers, and 5 children. He has interacted with children ages 0 to 16 years, and he is usually relaxed or playful, and when he plays with them, he is usually exuberant or somewhat rough. He usually snaps at strangers who approach his house. He has lived with 2 Shih Tzu and he was usually relaxed and gently or exuberantly playful around them. Owner stated that he does growl when he is in his crate, but that he usually shows no signs of aggression when not in his crate”. Rockford may require positive reinforcement training techniques to address Parker barrier aggression. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home.
