Came in with: A0830639-Guinness Basic Information: Remi is a 7 year old spayed American Pit Bull Terrier. She was given to the owner as a gift when Remi was a puppy. She is being surrendered because the owner currently is searching for a new home. Remi has been to the vet recently and does not have any known health problems or injuries. Social Life and Personality: Remi has been socialized with children aged from infants and older. Remi is relaxed, tolerant, and gentle during the play with the children. Remi has lived with another dog her hold life and is attached to him. They are very affectionate and tolerant with each other and exuberant during play. She has not been socialized with cats to know her behavior with them. She is house trained and does not have bathroom accidents in the home. She has been kept mostly indoors and has a medium activity level. The owner describes Remi as playful, confident, excitable, affectionate, shy, mellow, independent, and friendly. Behavior: The owner says that Remi is not bothered when someone takes away or touches her food bowl, bones, treats, rawhides, or toys. She is not bothered when pushed of the furniture, given a bath, or when having her nails trimmed. She enjoys being brushed and pet. She does not mind when held or restrained. She barks when there is unfamiliar people approach her home but stops if her owner invites them in the home. She is not bothered when unfamiliar people approach her family. For a New Family to Know: Remi knows the commands sit, quiet, out and stop. She is used to leashed walks and playing a fenced in yard. She is let outside at least twice a day. She does not play much with toys. She likes to play fetch with balls. She has not been crate trained. When she is home wither owner she usually is laying in her favorite spot. She is well behaved when left in the home and yard. The owner has never had Remi off leash in an open park. She is nervous of thunder and tries to hide during storms. She is used to eating a bowl of Pedigree dry dog food once a day. Her favorite treats are milkbones. She sleeps on a blanket on the floor. Intake Behavior: Remi greeted the counselor by jumping up and soliciting attention. She allowed all handling and did not show aggressive behaviors. She began to whine when separate from her brother.

Remi previously lived with 1 adult and has been socialized with children aged from infants and older. The owner stated Remi is relaxed, tolerant, and gentle during the play with the children. The owner also mentioned she is house trained, and has a medium activity level. The owner describes Remi as playful, confident, excitable, affectionate, shy, mellow, independent, and friendly. It was mentioned by the owner she is well behaved when left in the home alone. At intake Remi was social, social and attention seeking, she also allowed all handling. During SAFER Remi came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, she friendly and social towards he assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Remi was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Remi was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Remi appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Licks hand. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with her tail down, body likely a bit stiff. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest.

When off leash with other dog Remi engages in running play with a solicitous male. 7/29 update: Remi is playful but maintains a stiff body throughout the interaction. She is solicitous and will correct inappropriate behavior. She may attempt to assert herself over another playful female. 7/30 update: Remi engages in rough running play with a solicitous female. She will offer corrections when play becomes too exuberant.
