12/15/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Due to the behavior demonstrated in the shelter the behavior department believes that Raffy is not an appropriate candidate for SAFER at this time. At intake it was reported Raffy was tense, growling and barking, the owner did all handling. During his medical exam Raffy had very tense body language and tried to bite a medical staff member. In the kennel Raffy can be seen growling, snarling, lunging and trying to bite when approaching his kennel. The owner stated Raffy was never socialized with people but friendly with dogs. The owner has reported that when visitors come over and attempt to touch or pet Raffy, he responds by growling. A SAFER assessment will not be conducted due to safety and stress level concerns. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification to address this behavior and can extensively counsel potential adopters before placement into a permanent home.
