The owner stated she doesn’t play much but enjoys being around both adults and children. Princess lived with 2 other dogs, and the owner stated they all co-existed well. The owner also states that Princess is well behaved and she is not bothered by having her food bowl touched while eating, or when her toys are taken away. Princess was described as playful, affectionate, independent, and friendly. She was also said to be a very quiet dog and has a medium activity level. At intake Princess was reported to be very calm and affectionate and allowed all handling by a counselor. During SAFER She maintained a relaxed body posture when interacting with the assessor, and allowed all handling items to be completed without issue. She was also relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Princess was not interested in the food or rawhide items, and only showed minimal interest in the toys. Princess appears to be sociable and has not shown any behavioral concerns while in the care center, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” experienced adopter. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is open for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Food: Inconclusive, dog is not eating. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog sniffs, then turns away. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Update: Princess appears not to be thriving in the busy adoptions room, and she is difficult to place back in her kennel. She shows no aggression, but refuses to walk down the hallway to the adoptions room. She walks easily into holding. Based on this behavior, it is not in Princess’s behavior to remain in the adoptions room.
06/19/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Princess is nervous, entering the yard with her tail tucked. She is hesitant to approach the gate and when she gets near, she will quickly turn her body away from the helper dog. She is not introduced. 6/20 update: Princess greets at the gate and gives no reaction with her head turned to the side, so she is muzzled. When introduced she allows greeting but keeps her tail tucked. After initial greeting she is avoidant and remains in the opposite side of the yard as the helper dog. 6/25 Update Princess is tolerant when greeted and offers appropriate corrections. 6/26 update: Princess is social and will engage in brief bouts of play.
